Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Competition 2009 - Fusion wins!

Fusion, Copyright © 2009 by Sandra Reid

Fusion is a piece about contrast between the beautiful man-made chrome shape and the lichen covered rock background. In spite of the stark difference between the two they seemingly meld into one another as if this was meant to be.

I am very fond of hand coloured black and white photography and you can see the influence in this art work with the subtle addition of colour to a monochrome palette. The small lichen shapes on the rock forms in Fusion entice the viewer to look more closely.

I am thrilled to announce that Fusion has been selected as one of the winning entries in the 2009 Benoit Mandelbrot Fractal Art Competition and will be included in the fractal art exhibition at the International Congress of Mathematicians in India in 2010. Congratulations to all the other winners.

The competition is not only named after French mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot who discovered the Mandelbrot Set and invented the term 'fractal' but he is also one of the judges so it is a privilege and an honour to have work included in this exhibition.

If you are in India next year, please do go along and have a look at this lovely exhibition of fractal art by fractal artists from all over the world.

Welcome Jane

Thank you very much for the lovely feedback.

We are certainly going have a lot of fun learning XenoDream together. I haven't used this software before either so it will be a steep learning curve.

You are going to absolutely love creating fractals....be warned it is very addictive. :-)
