It has been a gorgeous spring day and as I sit here writing this blog post my tapping on the keyboard is accompanied by the beautiful song of our native bellbird.
Every year the bellbird is the first to visit the flowers of our kowhai tree followed by a rather boisterous flock of tuis.
There is nothing better than sitting creating art with just the native birds singing in the background.
Now I have introduced you to the native birds of my garden it is time to discuss this week's piece of art, Sculptures in the Sand. I draw a considerable amount of inspiration for my art from nature and also from my own photography. I particularly enjoy working in black and white, so have incorporated this interest into my fractal art.
Sculptures in the Sand was the first black and white fractal that I created. The vision for this piece was to do something a little different by working with a high key white textured background. It was a challenging piece of art to create because a white textured background that does not overpower the rest of the artwork is difficult to achieve. At times while I was creating this artwork I was not really sure that the whole concept worked.
Now, 12 months down the track I actually feel that the simple 3 dimensional, metallic looking fractal sculpture that seemingly emerges from the white sand really does work and I am happy with my final creation.
Enjoy!
